Just the other day I took my shih tzus to the vet for a parvo vaccination. Both George and Eve are similar in weight there is only a variation of 3 pounds, George weighs 14 pounds and Eve 17 lbs. They both enjoy going to the veteran, each one gives them so much notification. Chloe went in first.
She turned back out and was fine Then it all went terribly wrong Eve started to vomit all the contents in her tummy. Our shih tzu laid down and wouldn't move. We lounged in the hope that her state would get better quite rapidly. Eve was in a horrible state and didnt know what to do, it was like looking at an elephant being shot and losing control of its legs slowly but surely.
When the vet noticed what was going on he rushed to his cabinet to get some steroids for our shitzu. Only time would inform whether this would have the preferred outcome on the vaccination she had been given. The rate of her breathing was all over the place sometimes it was fast sometimes it was slow. John then advised us that we get her to the specialist dog hospital in our area so they could provide her 24/7 care. At this phase we could only pray that everything would work out.
She had many I.V. lines and oxygen. Nobody thought our shih tzu dog would be with us much longer. Tender loving care with the hospital drugs were her stable diet for four days whilst there.Basically she went into shock after being given her treatment by John, it wasnt his fault as he could never have known this was going to happen.The good news is that she is making great strides forward in her recuperation.
Feeding a little at a time, drinking, but sleeping a lot. I think she will come to a full recovery gradually. It has been a sharp learning curve these last few months.
I have found out that the shih tsu breed are the number 1 to react to them.I am on a bit of movement now to make sure people manage to obtain "full disclosure".The fee was outrageous although I didnt mind paying it at all at the time as it protected our dogs life.Others should not have to go through this.
